Ballajura Community College is an organisation centred on and in its community.
Students contribute to a sense of community in events such as the annual ANZAC Day ceremonies, Remembrance Day and Vietnam Veteran’s commemorations held in the Memorial Peace Park which is, in turn, maintained by our student Custodians of the Peace Park and our Police Rangers for community use.
Students contribute to the sustainability of the local environment in the College’s commitment to Whiteman Park and groups such as the Police Rangers exhibit their dedication in their support of issues, agencies and individuals in the local and wider community.
Events on the College Calendar such as Music in the Park, Ballajura Community Fair, Choir Fest and the Art Exhibition are all examples of some of the ways in which the students in the College give back to the Community.
There is a sense of community also, in the ways in which Ballajura Community College draws from its neighbourhood. Members of the College Board, an advisory body to the principal and teachers, are drawn from local businesses and families and there is a consultative Parents and Citizens group. The College has strong links to the local business community drawing on it to provide work experience to enhance Vocational courses and for expertise and products for programs. The port of first call for assistance for Ballajura Community College is always its local community.
The College maintains a strong connection with local primary schools through the Ballandjarra Network where staff and students work together to cater the diverse needs of the community.
Finally, the College creates a sense of community in its own organisation and composition, catering for the widest range of educational needs and the sense of community is rounded off by Parent forums, Parent tours and Parents’ evenings; all of which bring students, parents and teachers together in their commitment to the community of the future.
